ID Released For Man Killed In Crash With SUV Driven By Alleged Drunk Driver In Westchester

New information has been released after a motorcyclist was struck and killed by an SUV driven by an allegedly drunk driver in a busy Mount Vernon intersection.

Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Bradley and East Lincoln avenues shortly before 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, where there was a report of a motorcyclist who had been struck and suffered injuries.

Upon arrival, it was determined that Connecticut resident Dwayne Brown, 32, was struck by an SUV being driven by Mount Vernon resident Ivette Ortiz, 42, who may have allegedly been impaired, according to authorities.

Brown's place of resident in Connecticut has not yet been released.

Brown was unresponsive when officers arrived, and paramedics provided first aid before transporting him to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Ortiz was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

The fatal crash came just hours after a 9-year-old boy was fatally struck by a minivan while attempting to cross South Columbus Avenue in Mount Vernon.

“The men and women of the Mount Vernon Police Department are working vigorously on this investigation,” Mount Vernon Police Chief Richton Ziadie said in a statement. “We extended our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim.”
